The Roman Road                by Rev. Jacquie Kirkwood

There is a Roman Road that leads to Heaven!  Truly, it really does.  But, it is not one of the roads that was built by Caesar’s workmen.  It is not posted on any of the 53,000 miles of roads that the Romans built.  You will find this “Roman Road to Heaven” clearly marked in the Book of Romans,  the sixth book in the New Testament.  This small book was written by the Apostle Paul while he was in Corinth as a letter to the Christians at Rome.  I encourage every reader here to set aside an hour or two to read carefully the entire book of Romans.  This book tells you how God makes good men out of bad men, and how any man can, by following the roadmap of Romans, travel from where he is now, into the Kingdom of God!

Heaven is a Holy Place.  God is a Holy God.  How then can weak, sinful men hope to enter heaven?  The answers are in the book of Romans.  The first thing you need to know is that you are lost!  Unless you have been, as Jesus described it “born again”, you are not on the road to heaven.  You are on the other road. But anyone, even prisoners, lawbreakers and criminals can get on the road and travel all the way to heaven!

Luke tells the story of two thieves who were crucified the day that Jesus died.  One of them was lost forever.  The other thief was saved forever.  He heard Jesus say, “Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with Me in Paradise.”  But before he discovered the road to heaven this thief realized and confessed that he was lost, guilty, and deserving of death! (Luke 23:40-43)

A group of prisoners once asked a prison chaplain. “What do you think of the death penalty?”  His reply, “I think that I deserve the death penalty, for I am a sinner, but the best, the holiest man that ever lived offered to die in my place.  And He died for me, on the Cross of Calvary.”

He died for all our sins, so that we would not have to die in our sins, if only we would choose to die to our sins.  The unconverted thief died in his sins (Luke 23:39).  The repentant thief died to his sin (Luke 23:42).  Jesus died for our sins (1 Tim. 1:15).  For All Have Sinned.

“As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans  3:10)

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

“Wherefore as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; so death passed upon all men,  for that all have sinned. (Romans 5:12)

All have sinned.  I have sinned.  You have sinned. But, here is the good news, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  (Romans 5:8)

Now, you open your Bible to the Book of Romans and together, let us draw a map of the Roman Road to Heaven.

How to Draw the Map

First, start at Romans 3:10.  Underline this verse and in the margin, write,

“The Road To Heaven Starts Here.”   Then write Romans 3:23.

Now turn to Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

In the margin write Romans 5:12.

Now turn to Romans 5:12, and beside that verse write, Romans 5:8.

Underline verse 8, and beside it write Romans 10:9-13.

     Now read those verses:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

“For the Scripture saith, ‘Whosoever believeth shall not be ashamed.’”

“For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek:  for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him.”

That is the map. You can follow this Biblical road map to heaven.  And you can use this road to lead others to heaven.

These Are The Important Road Signs

*The Bible says that all have sinned.  Romans 3:10 and 3:23

*The price of sin is death.  Romans 5:12 and 6:23

*Jesus paid the price for our sins.  Romans 5:8

Now, are you willing to ask God to forgive you of your sins?  Are you ready to accept Jesus as your Savior, the One Who paid the price for your sins?

Then pray this prayer . . .

“Dear God, I have sinned.  I need to be forgiven.  I need to be saved.  I want to receive Jesus Christ today as my Lord and Savior.  I come to You, Jesus,  just as I am.  I am without excuse.  I know you are calling me to You, and I am answering your call.  Take me as I am and make me what You want me to be.  In Jesus Name,  Amen.”

According to the Bible, if you die in your sins you will go to hell.  But, if you confess your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, He will give you the free gift of “Eternal Life” and you are on The Roman Road to Heaven.  Now, just as you confessed that you were a sinner and Jesus is your Savior,  confess also that you are trusting in Him, and that He has saved you, and you are on the road to heaven.  Tell someone about your decision to trust Christ.  We would be honored if you chose to tell us. You could send us an e-mail below.

Also, it is important for your growth to seek out Christian company in a local church to share your faith, to study, to pray, and worship God.  Trust in God’s grace to help you grow and to pick you back up when you fall down.  Your faith in Christ has put you on the Roman Road to Heaven and we rejoice with you!  Welcome to the family of God!

Please e-mail us at Praise On Fire Radio, and let us know if you prayed to receive Christ today.  We want to rejoice with you!
